CURRENT EXHIBIT
Vandela Jasmine was born on August 9th, 1988, in Seattle, WA, and raised in Spokane. From a young age, she had a deep passion for art.. Her personal style has always leaned towards the bold and extravagant, with bright colors and extremes that naturally found their way into her art. Jasmine began painting in her teenage years and continued into adulthood without any formal training. In the summer of 2017, she made a life-changing decision to move to Southern California and settled in Beaumont. The following spring, she enrolled at Valley College, where she explored various art forms, including welding and glass blowing. During her time there, Jasmine participated in the “Shout Your Dreams” megaphone sculpture project, assisting the welding club in building a nine-foot steel megaphone, which became a permanent installation on the Valley College campus in Colton, California, in 2019. Jasmine is an active member in the Banning Art Gallery Co-op where she has had the opportunity to showcase her work and teach. Most recently, Jasmine participated in a group show at the Deman Gallery in Cathedral City in 2024.She currently resides in Palm Springs and studies Art History at California State University San Bernardino. Jasmine's acrylic on canvas artwork is known for its psychedelic and whimsical themes, brought to life with bright neon colors, glitter, and texture. She draws inspiration from her surroundings in California and from art history, particularly movements like Rococo, Art Nouveau, and artists like Van Gogh and Monet. Pieces from the museum’s collection that have helped to inspire Jasmine are included in the cases of this exhibit. Her goal is to infuse more intensity into art, adding glitter and vibrant colors to create a world where viewers can get lost in the brushstrokes and sparkle. Each piece is completed with a custom vintage frame that she personally refurbishes to complement the individual painting.
HISTORIC ROOMS
Pine Room
The Pine Room is presented in Stained Norwegian pine paneling carved in the 1680s. Considered the work of "Grinling Gibbons" for the home of the Earl of Essex at Cassiobury Park, this room recreates the look of a 19th century English Manor home. Art and artifacts displayed reflect the eclectic tastes of the day.
Blue room
The Blue Room is designed to reflect the comfortable feel of a sitting room during the 18th and 19th centuries. The Irish Bristol and Waterford crystal chandelier illuminates the room and a Broadwood pianoforte reminiscent of those used by musical composers of the Baroque and Classical Era is a sight to behold.
Gallery & Music Room
The Gallery and Music Room recreates the look of a long gallery room, an important feature of many of the great houses of Europe. Portraits of family members were often displayed alongside the owners' fine art collections. The Edward-Dean Museum Picture Gallery houses works by Joshua Reynolds, William M. Turner, David Roberts and George Lambert.
Rabe gallery and Oak room
The Rabe Gallery and The Oak Room are two galleries that house changing exhibitions and contain fine decorative arts from the 16th to 19th centuries.
ASIAN COLLECTION ROOM
The Asian Collection Room displays a collection of Chinese paintings, sculptures and costumes adjacent to an alcove containing Classic and Neo-Classic sculpture of bronze and Marble.
REFERENCE LIBRARY
The Reference Library houses 2,700 books, many from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The collection is a culturally rich enhancement to the existing Riverside County Library System collection with many books highlighting subjects like Science, Botanical, Architecture, Landscape, Design, Art, History, Religion and Fashion. One particularly impressive feature of the rare collection is a handwritten account ledger from General George Washington during the Revolutionary War, dating back to June 1775 through 1783.
